Anniversaries

Lots to celebrate here at AoaAF.

One year ago, I married my best friend and the best teammate one could ask for. He's still putting up with me, so something's going right.

Three years ago, I decided that I should write about what I eat. I'm floored that there are people out there who read the swill I post and for that, I thank you all.

One year ago, Bear passed his Canine Good Citizen test, proving that old dogs can learn new tricks and that a little faith can bring one back from the brink.

One year ago, I had no idea I'd dig up the cajones (finally!) to take the MCAT and (finally!) apply to medical school.

One year ago, I was on my way to the most beautiful place on Earth.

A lot happens in a year and it's been one hell of a ride.

Our celebratory dinner was steak frites with maître d'hôtel butter from the Bouchon cookbook. Fries from a newly acquired trick. Corn from the Hillcrest farmers' market.

What we were eating a year ago:

Thanks to Krazo for the photo.
Some shots from the wedding. It was a lot of fun and pretty as heck.

Thanks to Krazo, MRT, JL, Lawn Fawn, DA, JT, Uncle D, Uncle C, sister-in-law H., and LS for the above photos.
Many wedding sites advise leaving disposable cameras on the table for guests to take photos, but our catering manager had some good points: the cameras might not be returned, not very environmentally friendly, and they don't look that great on the table. We weren't too concerned with aesthetics, but we really hoped that we could see photos from our guests' perspective without generating extra waste. Instead of the disposables, we decided to start a Photobucket account and invite everyone to upload their photos. It worked out really well.

Lots of local and personal touches in the food and decor. Decorations/flowers by D.'s mom, sister, and dad, along with an event planner that his mom hooked us up with. My mom did the fabulous table runners. Cakes by Jenny of Foray Into Food. Catering by the French Gourmet. Beer from Ballast Point Brewing Company. Venue was the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. Professional photography by a fellow UCSD alum and resident advisor.

Here's to many more awesome things to celebrate!

Sounds like a wonderful and exciting year! I'm curious about the Battlestar Galactica sign?

We named our tables after our favorite TV shows. :) Battlestar beat out Star Trek for our table.

Happy Aniversary(s)! You've got so much going on! Did you save some cake from the wedding to eat on your anniversary?

Happy Anniversary! May you have many more to celebrate! :)

Nice to know that Jenny made your wedding cake! She made my bday cake this year (and last) as well as cakes for my husband, daughter, etc. She's awesome!

Haha... just clicked on your link for your photographer. Didn't realize you knew the Galangs' too. His wife was my "RA" in Summer Bridge.

Too funny! I saw the fries with your steak frites and was so excited to see you secret...since they looked just like McD's fries! I thought...ooh, she must have a great secret to get her fries to turn out like this! LOL...guess I should have known...no one makes them quite like McD's.

PS...your wedding photos are gorgeous!
