Iron Foodie 2010: Why I'm here

Iron Foodie 2010 | Here's Why that will be me:
MarxFoods.com -- Fine Bulk Foods The Foodie BlogRoll

The Foodie BlogRoll has partnered with Marx Foods to present Iron Foodie 2010. I've been dying to try more recipe development and, with one recipe, this challenge is very friendly to my hectic and crazy schedule.

Why do you want to compete in this challenge?

It's been a grueling year and I'm returning to cooking/blogging. Working with mystery ingredients and new recipe development is an excellent way to challenge myself. Plus, dangle a food shopping spree in front of me and I'm in.

Limitations of time/space notwithstanding, whose kitchen would you like to spend the day in and why? Julia Child, Thomas Keller, Ferran Adria, James Beard, Marie-Antoine Careme, or The Swedish Chef?

That's easy... I'm a huge Keller fan. I love his cookbooks, his exacting attention to detail, and that his recipes range from comfort food to haute cuisine.

Keller also had an unwitting influence in our wedding. We celebrated our engagement at Bouchon and the French bistro theme carried on into our wedding reception (risotto notwithstanding... it was one of the best vegetarian options we had).

What morsel are you most likely to swipe from family and friends’ plates when they aren’t looking?

French fries. Best way to find some deep-fried-potato satisfaction without a lot of guilt.

Sum your childhood up in one meal.

There has to be enough food for an army, because my mother wouldn't dare run out of food. It'd definitely feature one of her specialties, like her banh xeo. And lastly, it'd be cacophonous, because we're not quiet people.

The one mainstream food you can’t stand?

Bell peppers. I'll eat just about anything, but I can't stand bell peppers.

And with that, my hat's in the ring. Good luck to everyone!
