Mama's Lebanese Bakery

Great little place in North Park that happens to fall right along B.'s usual walk path. Not much to say about it right now, because more visits are needed to explore their menu, but I did pick up a couple of things.

The first was hummus, topped with paprika and olive oil. D. wasn't a huge fan of it, but I enjoyed it. The chickpea flavor really stood out. More subtle than store-bought varieties, but it's less salty, too.

The baba ganoush was very good, but a bit over-roasted. It was too smoky and eggplant is very mild, so it was lost in the overall flavor of the dip. Still, it was good on pita bread, so I can't complain.

There was a case of baklava in front, so I'll have to return and sample it. I love baklava!

Hi GF - Nice bang for the buck place. Especially the flat breads made on the Sajj...but lately I've noticed that they've starting putting hummus on their wraps, which makes them really watery and changes the taste of everything. This place is still on our rotation, but hanging on by a thread.

Can you believe that I've known about this place for 1 1/2 years and lived a few blocks away for a year and still haven't dropped by? We walk by all the time with the pooch (I notice you're also a fan of the pooches!) and never picked up anything. Anyhoo, good to know about the wraps. I'm not a fan of wraps to begin with, but soggy ones appeal even less.

I'm a little disappointed to see that the pitas are shipped in from Anaheim. Then again, I wouldn't know how to make pitas, so I'm sure there's a reason for that.
